My obsession with finding great getaway spots around the country has led me to several amazing places.
The first time I reviewed Maranatha Beach Camp was in 2018 and it’s been one of my favourite budget-friendly destinations in Ghana since.

The camp is conveniently located at the Ada estuary where the Atlantic Ocean and the Volta River meet. This is a historical site.
At the camp, one can either play outdoor games like volleyball, hike through the surrounding villages, take long walks at the beach, visit the crocodile island, cruise on the volta river, watch sea turtles (when the season is right) or visit the rum island where you can get free freshly brewed booze! (Yup!!)
Accommodation at this resort is between Ghc 70 – 150 per night and your accommodation is a modest but decent beach hut with a double bed, (not very comfortable, but for the price, it’s OK I guess 🙃)
Rooms come with mosquitoes nets, clean sheets, they have charging ports and simple furniture.
They have dormitories available for large groups.
The best part is all the rooms at this camp overlook the beautiful serene Volta River.
Showers and Wc is a shared facility just a few meters from the huts and equally decent.
It’s important to note this camp isn’t for a “bouggie” traveler. I highly recommend it for budget travelers and backpackers, mostly.
The rooms are well ventilated and one can enjoy the natural breeze all night long. Waking up to a view of the lake makes the experience altogether perfect!
The food at the resort is usually freshly made, the menu consists of local and continental dishes ranging from Ghc 12 – 45. Plus, a well-stocked bar with regular-priced drinks.
The staff is friendly, and the ambience is great!
You can get the fresh coconut and other delicacies brought in daily by the locals from the surrounding villages.
The camp has a small library for book lovers like myself and one can enjoy a good read whilst relaxing in one of the hammocks scattered across the resort.
Getting here is a 1hr drive from Tema, if driving, there is a safe compound that serves as a guest car park for all the resorts around here.
When travelling with public transportation, you will get on a bus to Ada Foah from Madina or the Aflao station at the Tema motorway roundabout.
On arrival at Ada Foah, you will have to take a 5mins walk to the riverside side and then hire a boat to take you across the river to the resort at Ghc 40 round trip. Arrange this with the resort prior.
Finally,
The facility could use an upgrade. I saw a few new block buildings they’ve added and I’m hoping they include en-suite rooms soon.
My overall stay was great as always. Maranatha Beach has always been a budget-friendly haven. The Camp is available on Google maps, and Tripadvisor with great reviews.
