Roadtrip To Abidjan 🇨🇮

Soooo Cote d’Ivoire finally opened its land borders and I went on a road trip! 😃

Getting Here

Intercity Stc Coaches travel from Accra to Abidjan direct starting from Ghc 480 daily and you have to book via phone. The journey which should take 10 hours usually lasts 12 to 14 hrs due to the slow border checks. Brace yourself 🥲

Documents needed for this trip are the same as those listed in my Ouagadougou road trip so is the ticket booking process. This still includes “something for the boys” 👀

Caution: Book your return tickets when you arrive in Abidjan or at least 48 hours before your return. The STC app unfortunately doesn’t allow you to book the return trip online and you may not get a return ticket on the go 🤦🏾‍♀️

Pro Tip: Unless you want your passport stamped at the various borders, use your Ghana card. It’s easier and it helps you avoid getting extorted.

Accommodation

I stayed at “Villa Jaddis” in Cocody when I visited. I was thrilled when I first saw this villa online but, the room turned out rather disappointing and this ruined my stay.

Air conditioning barely worked, the bedsheets were torn & faded, the host wasn’t very accommodating, etc. For $100 a night, I simply expected more.

The pool and the garden area were however lovely so I ended up spending all my time outdoors I loathed my room 🫠

Things To Do & More

On day 3, I took a 3-hour bus ride from Abidjan to Yamoussoukro to experience the Basilica Of Our Lady Of Peace. The largest church in the world!

The entrance fee at the Basilica was 2000CFA during my visit and you get a personal guide. I spent 2 hours sightseeing, experiencing everything and I also spent time conversing with other travelers at the church’s in-house cafe.

This experience was the highlight of my trip 🫶🏾

I also spent most of my afternoons and nights bar-hopping, eating street food, and moving around the city with yango taxis. I relied on my drivers for recommendations on the nearest bars, food joints, etc. and they did not disappoint.

Abidjan is vibrant and very pretty at night! 😍

Abidjan is expensive, budget accordingly. The most popular and functional taxi app is Yango and the rates are pretty high.

If you want to skip the city completely, stay at the beach destinations Assinie Mafia or Grand Bassam. There are numerous gorgeous resorts along the coast and I plan to return just for the beaches ✨

My overall budget for this 6-day trip was a little over $750. If you opt to fly here your budget can be as high as $1,000.
